Amidst the new parking laws that were implemented by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the authorities are charging exorbitant rates for vehicles being parked at no parking areas. In the view to reduce congestion in the city, ₹10,000 and ₹5,000 will be charged for cars and bikes respectively.

However, according to many residents who protested against this move have claimed that the authorities should have provided with alternatives first. Recently, BMC drafted a plan to allow public parking in 5 societies in each ward

In order to provide more alternatives, Central Railway has identified 13 new locations in the city for pay-and-park near Railway stations. The stations at which these spaces have been marked out include Byculla, Ambernath, Kalyan, Bhandup, Dombivli, P’D Mello Road entrance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), the old building of Lokmanya Tilak Terminus(LTT), Thane among others.

The charges for parking will be ₹5 for a cycle, ₹10 for two-wheelers and ₹20 for cars. As stated in Hindustan Times, Divisional Commercial Manager of Central Railway Robin Kalia said that railways are all set to earn ₹6 crore in revenue from pay-and-park services.
