This Diwali, passengers on Central Line can expect a gift from Central Railway as the rail corporation might receive its first air-conditioned (AC) local. This coach is expected to come in the next two week and as per reports, the service might begin from Diwali.

According to a report by DNA, the AC rake is currently being manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai and shall be dispatched in the coming days. A Central Railway official told DNA that the rake is expected to arrive in Mumbai within a fortnight and the trains might run on the tracks soon since the trials for the same have already been conducted previously.

At present, the authorities are chalking out a plan on whether to run an entire AC local or half AC and half non-AC in a 12-car train. The report further added that the decision will be taken in the coming days and the authorities are likely to run half AC locals as Railway ministry in Delhi is keen on this format.

The most likely route which will witness the introduction of the service is the Thane-Vashi-Panvel Trans harbour line which used by four lakh commuters daily on average. Earlier in September, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had directed the CR authorities to draw out a plan to run 4-6 AC locals on the Trans-harbour rail network.
