This Independence day, Central Railway (CR) aims to run stink-free trains with its first-of-a-kind, fully automated toilet. These toilets will be installed in AC Three Tier coaches on a pilot basis by August 15.
The new toilet will trigger a flush the minute a passenger opens the door (pre-flush) and will give another flush the moment the toilet door is closed after use. Further, after the door has been opened 10 times, there would be an auto floor flush to also clean the toilet floor. To ensure pleasing toilet ambience, an air-spray dispenser will spray out a scented mist periodically. Automated interior light and exhaust fan would ensure improved ventilation system in the toilet.

The technical staff at the designated control room will be alerted whenever the water level in the water tank of the toilet runs low or when the commode or bio-toilet is in danger of being choked.
The decision has been made after several complaints of foul smelling and non-functional bio-toilets by commuters. The design of the e-toilet will work in coordination with existing bio-tanks in coaches.
