The Central Railways on Monday, September 28, stated that all passengers travelling in the local trains with fake IDs will have an FIR registered against them if caught.

This comes after overcrowding was observed in the Mumbai locals last week. Several people blamed the Railways for running fewer trains, however, the commuters observed that people who are not engaged in essential services have also been travelling in the locals.

The Central Railways on the request of the Government of Maharashtra had commenced the selected services of special suburban trains from June 15, 2020, on the Mumbai suburban section. The services were gradually increased for the convenience of passengers in a bid to avoid overcrowding and maintain social distancing.

On the other hand, the Central Railways had earlier issued a statement regarding the commencement of the booking. In this circular, the Railways stated that since the government has allowed travel from one district to another, the CR is starting inter-district passenger transport by rail. For this, the passenger reservation facility is being implemented. From September 2, passengers were able to book inter-state train travel at the railway station.

In the past, it had also increased the frequency of the Kisan Rail from weekly to bi-weekly. This initiative aims to double the income of the farmers by the year 2022 as it ideally caters to the requirements of small farmers and traders for carrying their perishable supplies to distant places.
