The Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Underground Metro-3 has been under construction in Mumbai. The work is being done by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRCL) where a control room for emergencies pertaining to monsoons has been set up for the subway.

According to reports, a total of 428 water absorption pumps and 15 emergency service vehicles have been arranged for Mumbai Metro 3, according to MMRC. The rest of the work including the undergrounding of Metro-3 is in full swing. So far the work of undergrounding has been completed by 83 per cent. Out of the total work for the project, 56 per cent of work has been completed.

Metro-3 is said to be added to the Bandra-Kurla Complex. Apart from this, Churchgate, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Mumbai Central Railway Station, Monorail Station at Mahalakshmi, Metro-1 to Marol, Metro-6 to Aarey will be connected to Metro-3. Apart from that, Metro-3 will also be connected to the airport. About 75 lakh passengers have to travel daily by Mumbai local train which is considered to be the lifeline of Mumbai. This long metro route can reduce congestion in suburban railways, further providing relief to the people.

It is opined that the amount of traffic on the roads will also be reduced significantly after the Mumbai Metro-3 project is fully operational. The Mumbai Metro-3 project will enable about 16 lakh railway passengers to travel in air-conditioned coaches. There will be a reduction in travel time, reduction in noise and air pollution. The metros will also provide for safe and comfortable travel. Moreover, there will be 27 stations on the entire subway line which will make it convenient for the passengers to travel across the city. There is also a possibility of the development of metro rail to bring about a transformation and boost the real estate sector in the process.
