According to a latest development, the Maharashtra government has decided to build a 126-km Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor (MMC) by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is an approved 14 lane access-controlled expressway with a route alignment within Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in Maharashtra.

The expressway will connect three districts — Raigad, Thane, and Palghar. Its construction will be done in 2 phases – Phase 1: a 98.5-km highway between Navghar and Balavali, and Phase 2: a 29.9 km highway between Balavali and Alibaug. The expressway is expected to be completed and opened in 2030.
