According to a latest development, the Maharashtra government has decided to build a 126-km Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor (MMC) by Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is an approved 14 lane access-controlled expressway with a route alignment within Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) in Maharashtra.
The expressway will connect three districts — Raigad, Thane, and Palghar. Its construction will be done in 2 phases – Phase 1: a 98.5-km highway between Navghar and Balavali, and Phase 2: a 29.9 km highway between Balavali and Alibaug. The expressway is expected to be completed and opened in 2030.
This greenfield expressway was originally planned in 2011 by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). In September 2020, a deal was signed to hand its construction to MSRDC.
