The Central Railways (CR) has announced temporary cancellation of the newly introduced 10 AC local trains, which were replaced by the non-AC ones. This came into effect from today, August 25.

Accordingly, these 10 AC services will now run as non -AC services with existing schedules.

The announcement came just few minutes after commuters once again protested against the AC local trains at Badlapur railway station on Wednesday evening, August 24.

In an official statement released by the CR, it stated that 10 more AC local services were introduced from August 19. In view of various representation from passengers, these 10 services are temporarily suspended from August 25. These 10 AC services will now run as non-AC services with existing schedule. The date of introduction of AC services will be informed after review. The previously introduced AC services will operate as per their schedule.

For three consecutive days, commuters from Kalwa and Badlapur were protesting against the replacement of AC locals, which led to overcrowding of non-AC trains.

Moreover, on Wednesday, former cabinet minister Jitendra Awhad raised the issue in the Maharashtra State Assembly after which Shrikant Shinde MP met Central Railway General Manager Anil Kumar Lahoti to discuss the issue.

For those unversed, on Tuesday, August 23, commuters organisation had given memorandum to Badlapur railway station manager stating that if AC local train leaving from CSMT to Badlapur at 5.22pm doesn't get cancelled, then from Wednesday, they will travel in AC local train with non-AC tickets.

However, on Wednesday evening, when commuters travelled in AC local train with non-AC tickets, ticket checker inside the train fined several commuters. Therefore, upon reaching Badlapur railway station, commuters protested against the AC train. The commuters also gheraoed the station master.
Earlier, similar protests was held at Kalwa railway station against AC trains.
