CR loads 35.6% more freight in April-September 2021-22, highest so far

Mumbai Division has achieved loading in September 1.33 million tonnes, while Bhusaval Division 0.51 million tonnes, Nagpur Division 2.96 million tonnes, Pune 0.17 million tonnes and Solapur achieved 0.47 million tonnes loading.

Central Railway’s freight loading in September 2021 is the best ever any September loading. Central Railway loaded  5.44 million tonnes of freight in September 2021.

During the period from April to September 2021 (first half of financial year 2021-22), Central Railway loaded 34.85 million tonnes as against 25.71 million tonnes during the same period last financial year i.e. 2020-21 registering an increase of 35.6% . The major commodities loaded during April-September 2021 are Coal 18.24 million tonnes, Container 4.79 million tonnes, Cement 3.47 million tonnes, Iron & Steel 1.41 million tonnes, Sugar 1.07 million tonnes, Onion 0.50 million tonnes and automobiles 0.29 million tonnes.

Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway said that freight transportation by rail is the safest, quickest and environment friendly option available for customers. He also said that Central Railway is exploring all possible ways to increase revenue. In spite of monsoon, the team CR put their best and captured new traffic to boost the freight loading performance.

Business Development Units (BDUs) have brought in new commodities like Gypsum, Ammonia Gas, Galvanised Steel Coil, Mill Scale, Carbon Black Feed Stock from Mumbai Division, Nut Coke (Metallurgical Coke) from Nagpur Division, first time transportation of Sugar to Darshana, Bangladesh from Gurumarket, Pune Division and first ever loading of fertilizer from Ahmednagar, Solapur Division to CR’s freight basket which has helped in achieving this stupendous feat. Central Railway has commenced loading of dwarf container train from JNPT which will help to  increase in volume when double stacked. It also gives a competitive cost advantage and lower hinterland logistics.

As far as the first half of the financial year 2021-22, Central Railway’s loading of 34.85 million tonnes was borne by Mumbai Division 8.30 million tonnes, Bhusaval Division 2.80 million tonnes, Nagpur Division 19.49 million tonnes, Pune Division 0.89 million tonnes and Solapur Division 3.37 million tonnes.
