Mumbai Local News: CR Records Over 11 Crore Suburban Passenger Traffic in February

Central Railway has registered increased passenger traffic with robust financial performance for the Financial Year 2025-26 (up to February 2026), highlighting significant revenue through originating passenger and commercial earnings.

Central Railway has registered increased passenger traffic with robust financial performance for the Financial Year 2025-26 (up to February 2026), highlighting significant revenue through originating passenger and commercial earnings.

Passenger Traffic

Central Railway carried a total of 1503.50 million passengers during the Financial year (FY) 2025-26 marking an increase of 1.82 % over 1476.61 million passengers carried during the corresponding period last year.

This includes:

•1314.91 million passengers travelling in suburban trains in FY2025-26 against 1300.32 million passengers last year and

•188.58 million passengers travelling by Mail/Express/Passenger and other non-suburban trains in FY 2025-26 as against 176.28 million passengers last year.

During the month of February 2026, Central Railway carried 130.10 million passengers (including 112.98 million suburban and 17.13 million non-suburban) as against 128.27 million passengers last year.

Passenger Revenue

  • FY 2025-26 (Upto February 2026)

During the FY 2025-26 (Upto February 2026), Central Railway has registered originating passenger and commercial earnings of INR 16055.10 crores. This includes Passengers earnings of INR 7296.73 crores, Goods earnings of INR 7487.45 crores, Other Coaching earnings of INR 703.41 crores and Sundry earnings of INR 567.51 crores.

Other Coaching earnings include earnings of INR 118.89 crores through Non fare initiatives and INR 231.02 crores through Parcel transportation.

  • February 2026

During the month of February 2026, Central Railway registered total originating passenger and commercial earnings of INR 1613.87 crores. This includes INR 735.35 crores as passenger earnings, INR 746.16 crores as  Goods earnings, INR 62.61  crores as Other Coaching earnings and INR 69.75 crores as Sundry earnings.

Other Coaching earnings include earnings of INR 10.31  crores through Non-fare initiatives and INR 21.05 crores through Parcel transportation. 

During the month of February 2026, as part of the Non-fare initiatives, 36 commercial contracts were awarded through e-auction with a total Annual License Fee of INR 1246.60 lakh.

In Mumbai Division, contracts were finalised for advertisements inside suburban train coaches, o­n the toy train running between Matheran and Neral, and through internal and external media in rakes maintained at Kurla and Sanpada car sheds. A major out-of-home advertising contract for hoardings at Ghatkopar ROB was also awarded.

Additionally, nine non-digital advertisement contracts through glow sign boards were allotted at stations including Lonavala, Ambernath, Mumbra, Vangani, Badlapur, Titwala, Vasind and Kalyan.

Other commercial facilities awarded include a health kiosk at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, retail outlets at Byculla railway station, Kanjur Marg railway station, and Bhandup railway station, digital locker facilities at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, LTT and Dadar railway station, and vending services in suburban trains o­n Harbour, Trans-Harbour and BSU lines. A contract has also been awarded for the “YATRI” mobile application for the Mumbai suburban network.
