Dadar and 3 other railway stations in Mumbai to be rebuilt

The Western Railways (WR) is set to rebuild Grant Road, Charni Road, Mahalaxmi and Dadar stations that see significant footfalls to enhance passenger amenities, states reports. The officials have said that the work for the same is likely to begin before March 2022. 

A number of new inter-linked Foot Overbridges (FoB), several of them which are inter-connected, have come up at Dadar station, has upgraded the station's connectivity. At the Churchgate-end, an old Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) FoB is also being rebuilt, and the old elevated ticket booking offices at the southern end has already been demolished.

A WR official has stated that they are preparing General Arrangement Drawings for incorporating offices and other amenities at the new station buildings at Dadar.

The elevated booking office at Mahalaxmi, which is not in good condition, is also revamped. Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation and the civic body will be rebuilding the old Mahalaxmi Road bridge with a cable-stayed bridge. They are waiting for approval of the General Arrangement Drawings for this station from the head office.

At Charni Road and Grant Road, the new station buildings with the ticket booking offices will be coming up soon. The General Arrangement Drawings for Charni Road is already finalised, and they are preparing the structural design. 

Meanwhile, the Central Railway (CR) has decided to remove all British-era Overhead Equipment (OHE) masts by June 2022.
