Commuters in Mumbai can rejoice as they can now reduce their travel time within the limits of Mumbai city. As per a recent announcement, electric bike service is soon expected to begin at different stations of Mumbai, on the Central Railway. Reports state that the same would begin from February 2021 and passengers will be able to travel from Kurla railway station using e-bikes.

These e-bikes will be provided by Yulu via mobile apps, and currently, a facility of 80 e-bikes has been arranged on the western side of Kurla station. After understanding the demand for the same, officials plan to start this service at CSMT, Byculla, Dadar, Ghatkopar, Bhandup, Mulund, Thane and other stations.

At present, this facility has been provided for the passengers travelling to Kurla stations only and the plan is to expand further, but initially only on the central line.

The decision to implement the same was taken after the authorities noticed long passenger queues outside the Kurla station for rickshaws, taxis and buses. Launch of the e-bike service has been exclusively planned with an aim to provide connectivity between Kurla and Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

To access the same, passengers will have to download the Yulu app in their mobiles and will have to pay INR 5 to unlock the e-bike. The charges for per minute ride on the e-bike has been decided as INR 1.50. Currently, the facility is available through Yulu mobile app, and to unlock the e-bike, passengers will have to scan the QR code or entering the vehicle number for further use.
