One more air-conditioned local train will be introduced on the Western Railway Suburban route before March 2023. Thus, the number of air-conditioned local trains in Western Railway fleet will go up to 8. The officials of Western Railway have informed that currently the tests of this local train are in progress.

In December 2017, the first air-conditioned local train was introduced on the Western Railway route. Initially, this train garnered very little response from the passengers. However, as soon as the ticket prices were slashed, passengers welcomed the move and started travelling in the same in large numbers.

At present, AC local trains make 79 rounds on a daily basis. Currently, Western Railway has seven air-conditioned local trains.

Meanwhile, for some time now, a 12-car rake consisting of 6 AC coaches and 6 non-AC coaches was being run on an experimental basis. Manufactured in Chennai, a 12-car rake train arrived in Mumbai. However, this experiment didn't go as expected. Hence, the very same local train will be introduced in the western railway fleet as a full AC.

Sumit Thakur, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway informed that this local train is being tested by Research Design Standard Organization (RDSO) and will be ready for the passengers before March.
