Soon the passengers on Central line will be receiving the comfort of air-conditioned local trains as the first AC local train service will be operational between Thane and Panvel and Panvel and Vashi railway stations on the trans-Harbour section by the end of January 2020.

A senior railway official said that they are waiting for the final trial run of the AC local train and the locals will be operational once the remaining technical work is completed.

He also added that the first-ever AC local train will be run by two motor w - Mumtaz Kazi and Manisha Maske.

The official further stated that the AC rake is currently stationed at the Kurla car shed. The new AC local for Central Railways consists of CCTV cameras inside the ladies compartments and outside the motorman’s cabin, to curb incidents of stone-pelting.

Meanwhile, the routes of AC local have been reportedly decided after consulting the representatives of all passenger associations, which were unanimous in their demand that existing services should not be disrupted, in order to induct the AC local.

Meanwhile, despite demands from passengers to add the new AC locals in the existing timetable, Railways has decided to replace two services on the Trans-Harbour section instead of running additional journeys.

All the members agreed to the decision of operating 16 services on the trans-Harbour line in the Thane-Panvel and Thane-Vashi section,” said a railway official.

CR is expected to get six more rakes of AC locals in the future, of which one will be delivered by the first week of March.
