The Public Transport Authority of Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has offered free travel to women passengers on March 8, which is celebrated as International Women's Day every year.

MBMC had launched free bus travel scheme in 2021. According to official figures, only 11,552 women travelers could enjoy free travel in 2021 during the second wave of COVID-19 with restrictions. However, 21,463 and 25,838 women passengers availed the free facility in March 8, 2022 and 2023 respectively. The civic body had spent INR 1,43,995 in 2021, INR 2,73,786 in 2022 and INR 3,09,618 in 2023 for this initiative.

“This is a small initiative of the administration to celebrate International Women's Day. Buses plying on all routes will be free for women,” said Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Katkar.

Currently, the civic administration has a total of 79 buses in its fleet, including regular, AC Volvo and Midi operating on 20 routes. The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Transport (MBMT) authority is gradually adding more buses to its fleet.
