The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has started operating its buses with full passenger capacity as part of the easing of restrictions amidst the coronavirus outbreak.

The state government had earlier given permission to start ST buses across the state from August 20. However, it was mandatory to carry only 50 per cent of the total seating capacity. The ST Corporation had sought permission from the state government to transport passengers at full capacity. Accordingly, the state government has allowed the buses to carry passengers at full seating capacity on the condition that every passenger and staff is to wear masks and disinfect during the journey.

As a part of the Mission Begin Again campaign, the MSRTC has also been operating buses from Nalasopara in Palghar district to Thane and Mumbai that was rolled out since early June following the suspension of the suburban trains since March 22 as a result of the pandemic.

On the other hand, the MSRTC had earlier ferried over three lakh migrants up to the state borders and to various districts from the state borders since the first week of May. The biggest state road transport corporation of the country has a fleet of around 18,000 buses. The MSRTC had operated 1,200 buses and ferried 27,528 migrants, most of whom were on the way to Maharashtra's borders, heading for northern states. The MSRTC had offered them free bus ride up to the state borders.
