Within three months of its commencement, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has collected INR 84 crores as the toll from the Samruddhi Mahamarg, also known as Mumbai-Nagpur expressway.

Sanjay Yadav, MSRDC joint managing director, said that in the past three months from December 11, 2022, to March 12, 2023, over 12 lakh vehicles used the expressway.

Light vehicle users commuting through the Samruddhi Mahamarg Expressway will have to pay a toll fee of INR 1.73 per kilometer. This means a person travelling by car along the partially opened six-lane expressway will have to pay INR 899 for travelling from Nagpur to Shirdi.

There are a total of 23 toll plazas between Nagpur and Shirdi on a 520-km stretch of the Samruddhi Mahamarg. A total of 13 petrol pumps function on the expressway. Towing vans and mechanics are also available to deal with emergencies apart from having 21 quick response vehicles in case of accidents, said officials.

The MSRDC on December 11, 2022, partially opened the Samruddhi Mahamarg from Nagpur to Shirdi after its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The remaining 181-km stretch from Shirdi to Mumbai will be completed by July, completing the entire 701-km between Nagpur and Mumbai.

To prevent accidents on the highway, the MSRDC is keeping a check on speeding and over-packed vehicles. It is coordinating with Regional Transport Offices (RTO) and the state highway police to keep a check on people violating safety norms.
