With the state government deciding to resume schools for 5th to 8th standard from January 27, all department controllers in the state have been instructed to start the ST bus pass facility for the students.

According to sources, students who need passes are to be met by the headmaster of the school under the jurisdiction of ST's Agar Manager. In addition, the general manager of ST has also ordered to start school rounds immediately if there is a need to start new rounds.

Amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus, schools across the state have been shut since March 2020. Though some districts of the state had reopened schools in November (Classes IX to XII), regions like Mumbai, its suburbs, Pune, Thane, and Nashik weren’t allowed to reopen due to a spike in COVID-19 cases. However, a week back, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray offered the approval to reopen schools a day after Republic Day. Somewhat contrastingly, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had said last week that schools under its periphery will continue to remain closed until further notice.

Earlier on December 29, Mumbai’s civic body, the BMC, stated that all schools in Maharashtra are to remain closed till January 15, 2021, in order to curb the spread of the coronavirus. The BMC back in November decided to keep all schools across the city closed till December 31. However, the Maharashtra government had earlier allowed Classes 9 to 12 to reopen from November 23, 2020.

On the other hand, in recent developments, the BMC has permitted city schools under the Cambridge board to conduct exams for Classes 9 to 12 offline, with all precautions as prescribed by the BMC, while schools of all other boards will be allowed to conduct board exams for Classes 10 and 12.
