On Monday, October 25, the Maharashtra government announced the launch of the BH (Bharat)-series number plates for vehicles that move from one state to another. Minister of State for Transport, Home and Information Technology, Satej Patil, said this would enable hassle-free travel.

After the discussion, Satej Patil announced on Twitter that the BH-series registration was started in Maharashtra.

Earlier, issues were faced due to inter-state shifting; however, now the vehicle owners will be able to avoid the problem as the registration for BH-series number plates will be digital.

According to the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, a vehicle registered in a state when taken to another state for more than 12 months was subject to assignment of new registration until now. With this launch, the process has now been simplified. A few days ago, Patil had said that the module was ready and the trials were underway.

While replying to the query of Goods and Services Tax (GST), he said that according to the law, GST is paid on homologation price (test for roadworthiness). It is given on the Vahan portal, and the motor vehicle tax is calculated at the end. He said they would make sure it is strictly followed in Maharashtra.
