A few days back, the central government allowed women to travel by the Mumbai local trains and this decision was welcomed by the state government. However, another section public has now raised concerns regarding the same, as they have not been allowed yet. Over the last few months, the state government of Maharashtra has been giving permissions for people to travel by local, however, it is being done in a staggered manner.

Now that all women have been allowed to travel on Mumbai local trains, questions have been asked about other passengers, and statements are being passed about the government's decisions. However, as per reports, the Thackeray government will soon be announcing a decision regarding the same, as a meeting is expected to be held in a day or two.

Understanding the concerns of the passengers, the state government wrote to the railway administration asking permission for the female passengers to commute on the local trains. Initially, the authorities have refused permission, and the same was then shared with Union Railways Minister, Piyush Goyal, who gave a nod and also issued a specific time for the same.

Addressing the current questions from the general public, State Aid and Rehabilitation Minister Vijay Vadettiwar has said a decision would be taken in the next two to three days.

The common man can no longer wait for the commute to begin, and a discussion was recently held between the railway administration and state government officials in this regard. Keeping this in mind, officials are expecting a decision soon, however, strict guidelines will be issued for the same.

Mumbai has a large number of people working in various organized and unorganized sectors, both associated with private and government offices. The government has been worried about managing the crowd once the services resume fo everyone, and understanding the same, a plan needs to be drawn to address the problems thereby ensuring no congestion and chaos. Currently, officials are planning revised working hours for office, as a solution to avoid these troubles, and Vijay Vadettiwar has said that this is expected to bring relief.

Until a few weeks back, only the employees associated with the essential services in Mumbai were allowed to travel in the local. However, the Bombay High Court had observed several requests and complaints regarding the need to start the same for the public and asked the government to come up with a solution for the same.

Meanwhile, after allowing women passengers to travel by train, Western Railway has started four more special women trains from Wednesday, October 21, 2020. These train will leave Virar for Churchgate at 8.55 am and at 9.49 am; and then will leave Churchgate for Virar at 6.55 pm and 7.40 pm. Currently, two ladies special trains were running, and with the addition, the services increase on the Western Railway from 700 to 704. On Central Railway, four ladies special local trains are running between CSMT, Kalyan and Panvel.
