Following the COVID-19 lockdowns in March, the tourism industry was hit pretty severely. This was also the case in Matheran, which is one of the most popular tourist destinations near Mumbai.

Central Railway (CR) officials have announced that toy train services between Aman Lodge and the Matheran Railway Station will officially resume starting November 4. CR officials mentioned four shuttle services will run between the two stations daily.

“The first train will depart from Matheran at 9.30 PM, while the last train will depart from Aman Lodge at 4.43 PM. Three second-class, one first-class and two luggage vans,” a senior Central Railway official said.

It’s worth mentioning that CR had also initiated parcel train services to provide essential commodities including food to the people of Matheran. However, services on this line were halted on the 2nd of June after receiving a relatively poor response from the locals.

Maharashtra’s battle with COVID-19 is still ongoing as some restrictions continue to be in place in some parts of the state including Mumbai.
