The month of November is one of the coldest in Maharashtra and it's the onset of winter season whereby the temperature reduces across the state. The season also excited many people to go on trips to enjoy the weather and over the last few years, travellers from Mumbai and Pune prefer to visit Matheran to enjoy a day or two.

In the similar fashion, officials are expecting the number of tourists to increase this year and keeping the same in mind, Central Railway (CR), on Thursday, November 19, decided to run 12 rounds of the mini train, daily until Monday, November  22, 2020, and this decision is said to help tourists reach Matheran in an easy way.

At present, there are four mini-train services from Aman Lodge to Matheran and eight shuttles, each day, on Saturdays and Sundays. However, due to an increasing number of tourists, officials have decided to add four more shuttle services, and as per reports, this will be implemented immediately.

Data reveals that the more than 2,500 travellers and tourists have enjoyed the mini-train journey from a day before Dhanteras until Bhai Dooj, and with this, the railway department has earned around INR 2 lakh.

The mini-train service is a major tourist attraction in Matheran, and tourists come here to enjoy the journey with their friends and family. Moreover, the mini-train is also affordable in terms of cost compared to other transport facilities. During the coronavirus crisis, officials were operating 8 up and 8 down from Monday to Friday, and 10 up and 10 down on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tourism has reopened in the last few months, and visitors have started travelling since the government has allowed activities to resume in the state. Moreover, many families had taken a break during Diwali as the celebrations were held in a simple manner following the directives from the government. For decades, Matheran has the first choice for a day trip from Mumbai and Pune, and due to this, the railway administration has understood the need to increase the number of train journies as the same has been requested by the people of Matheran as well.
