MMRDA to shift Wadala Metro station by 53m to make way for GST Bhavan

In order to meet the environment clearance requirements, the Wadala Metro station will be shifted by 53 meters from its proposed location. Earlier, the Maharashtra state government had proposed a GST Bhavan on the same plot where the proposal for Wadala Metro Station for Line VI.

Officials stated that the design of the bhavan clashed with the construction of the station at the disputed land.

A major obstacle for the project is that there are mangroves on the plot that MMRDA requires some portion of. According to a Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) official, they wanted to integrate the metro station with GST Bhavan but the architect for the bhavan declined the implementation of the idea.

After which, a meeting was held with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. In this meeting, it was decided that the two structures will have a common concourse. The station will now be shifted by 53 meters to make way for the over 20-storey GST bhavan. The GST Bhavan will be the state headquarters for sales tax and GST.

In the meantime, MMRDA has announced two metro projects as well as the completion of three new road projects.
