The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) has given the green light for shared auto-taxi stalls outside 28 Metro stations in Mumbai suburbs. This initiative will provide passengers with a seamless last-mile connection.

The shared vehicle and taxi stands are being set up as part of a six-month pilot project. During this time, the project's viability will be assessed. The main factor that will be taken into account will be how much traffic it generates.

Over 40 shared vehicle and taxi routes are expected to be launched in the coming weeks. Each metro station will have between one and three feeder routes. They will connect the stations to nearby commercial hubs or densely populated residential areas.

The Borivli RTO will oversee the taxi stands at 20 stations on Metro Line 2A (Andheri West to Dahisar) and Metro Line 7 (Gundavali to Dahisar). Meanwhile, the Andheri RTO will manage the stands at 8 stations on Metro Line 1 (Versova to Ghatkopar) and Metro Line 2A (Andheri West to Dahisar).

The stations shared auto-taxi stands for includes Aarey, Versova, Dahanukarwadi, DN Nagar, Andheri, Goregaon, Dindoshi, Akurli, Mandpeshwar, Magathane, Ovaripada, Devipada, Anand Nagar, Kandarpada, Chakala, Malad (W), Kandivali, Rashtriya Udyan, Eksar, Dahisar East, Poisar, Borivali, and Shimpoli.

As per the MMRTA order, stand boards displaying destinations and fares must be displayed for commuters. The order also instructs RTOs to collaborate with BEST authorities to ensure space for bus stands.
