Discussions are now gaining momentum regarding the location and naming of stations in Ambernath on the proposed metro line, which will give a new dimension to city transportation.

In this backdrop, former Planning Committee Chairman Kunal Bhoir, MP Dr. Shrikant Shinde has made a special demand. They have suggested in a statement that the proposed station near Mahatma Gandhi Vidyalaya should be named 'Shri Kshetra Prachin Shiv Mandir Metro Station' to highlight the religious and cultural identity of the city. The cities of Ulhasnagar and Ambernath have been included in the expansion of Metro Line 5.

Recently, in a meeting held in the presence of MP Dr. Shinde, MMRDA Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee and senior officials, the proposed metro stations in Ambernath were discussed.

Currently, Metro Line 5 (Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan) is going to connect Ulhasnagar and Ambernath. One of these lines will go back to Kalyan via Birla College. Therefore, most of the city is being covered by the metro. Further, it has been decided to extend this metro line via Ulhasnagar, Kalyan Badlapur state highway, and directly from Ambernath city to Chikhloli.

Work on a railway station is underway at Chikhloli in Badlapur and Ambernath. It is here that a consensus has been reached on the confluence of Metro 14 and Metro 5. Therefore, the integration of Metro and railway will take place at Chikhloli. Metro Line 14 will travel through Taloja-Katai-Newali-Anandnagar MIDC-T Circle-Badlapur. Its layout has been finalised.  As part of the Metro 5 expansion, a station is proposed for Ambernath in the GNP Plaza area, near the Kalyan-Badlapur highway. The integration of Route 5 and Route 14 will make the journey of passengers going to Thane, Navi Mumbai and Mumbai faster and more economical.

Impact of Metro on Ambernath-Ulhasnagar area

The expansion of Metro 5 will be a new transportation revolution for Ambernath and Ulhasnagar. In the backdrop of the growing population of these cities, the increasing number of vehicles and the pressure on the railways, Metro is becoming an essential option. Direct, fast access to Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai will ease the daily commute of the citizens here. This will benefit commercial, industrial and educational commuters in Ulhasnagar and Ambernath the most.

Apart from this, the proposed 'Shri Kshetra Prachin Shiv Mandir Metro Station' will also boost religious tourism. The historic and ancient Shiva temple of Ambernath attracts devotees from across the state. Naming a metro station after it will further cement that identity.
