Local train access was previously limited to a small portion of travellers including essential and healthcare staff. The Maharashtra Government has now revised those regulations to permit fully vaccinated passengers to access the city’s train network.

More specifically, only people who have waited at least 14 days after their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to travel. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will be tasked with verifying the passengers’ proof of vaccination. Travellers are also required to carry their photo identification cards at the station.

“We are operating all 617 railway booking offices to facilitate passengers between 7 am and 11 pm every day,” a railway official said. A total of 113 railway stations across Mumbai have opened their ticket booking counters so far.
