The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced a new day-long trip for people looking to explore the famous Raigad fort that belonged to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

“It will be a complete day trip and a good experience besides using a ropeway to reach the fort,” Managing Director at MSRTC, Shekhar Channe said. He added that this special bus would operate only on Sundays.

As per the itinerary, the bus will leave the depot at Mumbai Central by 5 AM and reach the location at Raigad by 9 or 9:30 AM. Following a breather and refreshments at local restaurants, passengers can then take a ropeway to the fort by paying a fee of ₹100 per person.

Meanwhile, a ticket on this bus from Mumbai Central to Raigad will cost ₹260, meaning the two-way trip cost amounts to ₹520. It’s worth mentioning that these costs don’t include the tickets for the ropeway or the passengers’ refreshments at the site.

“The fort is visited by students, families and others on Sundays. It takes 20 minutes to travel on the ropeway and once on the other side, you can hire a guide or see the magnificent Fort yourself,” an MSRTC spokesperson said.

The tour concludes at around late afternoon, by which time the passengers can catch the same bus that they came on and head back to Mumbai Central. The bus should reach Mumbai by around 9:15 PM, the spokesperson added.

Raigad is home to the hill fort of Mahad. Many of the buildings and structures still standing here were commissioned by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj after making it his kingdom’s capital in 1674. Thanks to the rich history and the new facilities made available, authorities hope to boost tourism in the area.
