The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has announced a series of measures to improve the punctuality and regularity of its bus services, emphasizing that timely operations are essential for maintaining passenger trust.
During a review meeting, officials noted that ST buses serve as a lifeline for millions of commuters across the state and that delays in services would not be tolerated. The corporation has directed all divisions to implement stricter monitoring mechanisms to ensure buses operate according to schedule.
Under MSRTC's existing "Issue and Start" system, buses must be positioned at their designated platforms at least 10 minutes before departure. Conductors are also required to issue tickets to at least five passengers before the scheduled departure time, allowing officials to technically assess punctuality.
The corporation said that when a bus departs on time, it helps maintain the schedule for subsequent trips, improving service reliability and passenger confidence. Special emphasis has been placed on services operating between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., with officials instructed to ensure that all morning departures are conducted on schedule.
Authorities observed that several morning services were being delayed due to drivers or conductors reporting late for duty. To address the issue, MSRTC will strengthen monitoring through CCTV surveillance at bus stations, conductor reports, and digital records.
The corporation has also warned that accountability will be fixed on the same day if a bus is found to have departed late due to negligence by any official or employee. Disciplinary action will be initiated against those responsible.
MSRTC said punctuality will remain its top priority as it seeks to improve the reliability of services and provide better travel experiences for passengers across Maharashtra. Officials and staff have been urged to discharge their responsibilities diligently to ensure buses run on time.
