In honor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s revered mother, these buses will be named “Rajmata Jijau”, as announced by Maharashtra Transport Minister and MSRTC Chairman Pratap Sarnaik. The new buses are scheduled to be launched in phases from March and will operate on major routes across the state.
Designed in distinctive saffron and white colors, the buses are expected to symbolize Maharashtra’s pride and heritage while also enhancing passenger comfort.
Explaining the significance of the naming, Minister Sarnaik said, "Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is worshipped throughout Maharashtra, and the inspiration behind his dream of Swarajya was his mother, Rajmata Jijau. She is truly the mother of Hindavi Swarajya. Naming the new MSRTC buses after her is our way of honoring her invaluable contribution."
He added that MSRTC has a tradition of naming its premium services after prestigious symbols of Maharashtra, such as Shivneri, Shivshahi, Shivai, Yashwanti, and Hirakani.
"With the Rajmata Jijau buses, another proud chapter is added to this heritage," he said.
The new buses are expected to bring significant relief to passengers. Existing buses typically have around 40 seats, whereas the new models will have 55 seats, allowing at least 15 more passengers to travel comfortably without standing.
