State Transport will not increase ticket prices during Diwali 2020

The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), every year, during Diwali, releases a new season ticket prices, with an aim to benefit lakhs of commuters in the state. Due to the increasing demands, ticket prices also witness an increase, however, this year, the department has decided not to hike the seasonal ticket price, keeping the coronavirus outbreak in mind. 

Sharing more information, State Transport Minister and ST Corporation President Adv. Anil Parab said that the passengers in Maharashtra will be able to travel during the entire Diwali holiday at the existing ticket prices, and the government will not increase the same.

Based on the approval given by the State Transport Authority, the ST Corporation has the right to increase seasonal fares by up to 30 per cent, as a source of revenue growth during peak seasons like the pilgrimage, festivals, public holidays and the weekends.

Every year, the department witnesses a high demand in the number of travellers, especially during the Diwali holidays. The ST Corporation (MSRTC) tries to generate additional revenue by increasing ticket prices by 10 to 15 per cent for all bus services. But citizens have faced a tough time in 2020 due to the pandemic, and many have not been able to travel.

Minister Parab also said that the ST Corporation, which has been facing financial crisis for the last several months, has taken this decision keeping its 'Pravasi Devo Bhava' motto in mind.
