Mumbai Metro 11 route, originally planned to connect Wadala and CSMT, has been rerouted. The new route will service some of the busiest and most visited areas of south Mumbai, including Byculla, Fort, and the Gateway of India.

The rerouting of Metro 11 marks a big shift in Mumbai's metro plan. The city's two underground metro systems—Metro 3 and Metro 11—will now work to provide travel from north to south along its eastern and western seaboards, respectively.

The INR 16,000 crore, 16-km Metro 11 project will complete in five years. Experts suggest it might become operational around 2030. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) is leading the new Metro 11 route.

The original plan was changed to better serve the interests of the locals. Instead of connecting only Wadala and CSMT along the eastern side of the Central Railway's Harbour line, Metro 11 will now go from slightly west side and cross under the railway line.

The proposed plan will also include interchange at suburban train lines at CSMT and Metro 3.

Once Metro 11 is operational, the Byculla-CSMT-Ballard-Pier-Colaba stretch is expected to become much less dependent on buses and taxis. This will provide the public with a more economical and efficient mode of transportation.

Wadala will be the northernmost point of the Metro 11 project. It will then head south through property owned by Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT). The revised path calls for the project to go from west along Reay Road. Then, it will pass through the island city's busiest neighbourhoods of Byculla, Nagpada, Bhendi Bazaar, and Crawford Market. The route will eventually reach its southern terminus at Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk at Regal Cinema.
