The iconic Frere flyover, which was undergoing restructuring, between Charni Road and Grant Road has been reopened for traffic from November 17, 2021 at 11.30 am.

The dismantling work of the existing bridge commenced in January 2020. Despite COVID-19 pandemic lockdown since March 23, 2020, WR completed the re-girdering and strengthening of substructure with jacketing, including the Approach work of ROB. It has been reconstructed at a cost of INR 18.65 crores.

Moreover, the first pod hotel on the Indian Railways was inaugurated virtually today at the Mumbai Central railway station in south Mumbai.

The minister also inaugurated various passenger amenities via video link. He also inaugurated a Railway Public Grievance office at the Churchgate station.

The Union Minister of States for Railways Roasaheb Danve inaugurated the reconstructed Road Over Bridge near Grant Road station, an integrated surveillance system on Mumbai suburban section of Western Railway.

This construction has mostly impacted traffic between Grant Road and Charni Road.

As the Grant Road Bridge also opened for vehicle movement, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) restored its operation. Taking it to Twitter, the transport body announced the bus routes that have been operational.

The 99-year old Frere Road overbridge was built during the British Indian rule and is considered an iconic landmark in the city.

Alok Kansal, general manager of Western Railways, said the total cost of the projects and facilities inaugurated on Wednesday was worth INR 230 crores.

Last month, the Central Railways (CR) launched one-of-its-kind "Restaurant on Wheels" at the CSMT station in Mumbai.
