Mumbai: CR and WR to resume 100% local train services from Oct 28

Due to coronavirus outbreak and lockdown from March 22, 2020, train services were stopped completely. Later from June 15, 2020, railways began suburban services for essential service categories as identified by the State Government.

In a major development, the Central and Western Railways on Monday, October 25, announced to restore 100 per cent suburban services to Pre-COVID level on Mumbai division of CR and WR from Thursday, October 28.

Amid the ongoing pandemic-induced lockdown, Mumbai’s lifeline, local trains have been shut for nineteen months.

This comes as the railways have observed increased flow of commuters after college and school openings in local trains on both CR and WR.

Presently, CR and WR are running 1702 and 1304 suburban services on Mumbai division of CR and WR respectively which is 95.70% of its total suburban services.

However, from October 28, 2021, Central and Western Railways will run suburban services to Pre-COVID level on Mumbai division of CR and WR i.e. 100 per cent services viz. 1774 on CR and 1367 on WR.

The categories of commuters who were allowed by the State Government and approved by Ministry of Railways were subsequently enlarged in August 2021 and in recent week to travel in suburban trains.

Accordingly, at present, only categories identified by State Government and categories identified by them as on date are permitted to travel as per SOP.
