On Sunday, October 17, Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope announced that the state government is planning on allowing single dose vaccine takers in Mumbai local trains and malls.

This development comes on the day, when Mumbai reported zero coronavirus death first time ever since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Maharashtra government will consult the state COVID-19 task force and senior officials and discuss whether partially vaccinated people can be given a nod to travel by locals. However, the final decision will be taken by the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray only after Diwali.

He also acknowledged that coronavirus infections were witnessing a downward trend in the state. Hence, taking into consideration of people facing hardships owing to the current norm of the 12-16 weeks’ gap between two shots of COVID-19 vaccines, a final decision will be taken by the Chief Minister, Tope was quoted by PTI.

At present, apart from essential services, fully vaccinated citizens are allowed to commute in Mumbai local trains.

The Mumbai suburban trains were reopened for the general public from August 15, after Thackeray announced that it can only be availed of by those who have been jabbed with both doses. Furthermore, there also needs to be a gap of 15 days between the day of travel and the administration of the second dose of coronavirus vaccine.
