Days after railway stations in Mumbai started screening for outstation passengers, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) on November 27 created a dedicated zone inside the airport for domestic passengers arriving from various states without COVID-19 negative reports.

As per the Maharashtra government rules, the passengers arriving from Delhi, Goa, Gujarat and Rajasthan, will have to carry a negative COVID-19 report. In case, they don't have one, they will be required to undergo the RT-PCR test upon arrival at the airport at their own expense. Passengers can be directed to the test zone situated close to the bags carousel before exiting the airport, the airport authority stated.

A statement released by the airport authorities saying, “In keeping with the latest edict from the State of Maharashtra, passengers arriving at CSMIA from Delhi, Goa, Gujarat and Rajasthan are required to provide proof of a negative RT-PCR test prior to boarding their flight or undertake the test upon arrival at Mumbai.”

“Since the implementation of the new directive on 25th November 2020, CSMIA has tested over 200 passengers who have arrived from these earmarked regions, of which none have tested positive for COVID-19,” it added.

According to reports, on the first day of the implementation of the directives, 120 home arrival passengers undertook the RT-PCR test. The airport clarified that solely these passengers exiting the Mumbai airport can be required to provide their test report, not those transiting via Mumbai airport.

Meanwhile, on the first day, a total of 9,779 passengers were screened at six outstation railway stations within the BMC limits. Of which, 10 passengers had tested positive. Mumbai railway stations saw hundreds of passengers waiting in long queues for the mandatory screening for coronavirus.
