Auto Rickshaw unions said that in the last two years, of the 100,000 new drivers who began operating in Mumbai, nearly 20,000 do not have the mandatory badges and close to 5,000 do not wear the khaki uniform. Mumbai in total has 1.82 lakh registered autorickshaws that operate in eastern and western suburbs.

As per the union members, such drivers usually ride share autos in suburbs, near toll nakas at Dahisar, Airoli, Mulund and Vashi, outside Sion, Bandra Terminus, and LTT railway stations, as well as two airports.

Shashank Rao of Mumbai Autorickshawmen's Union informed that such drivers usually operate in groups and showed willingness to assist the authorities to get hold of them.  

A senior transport department official said that stringent action will be taken against rogue drivers adding that one can file complaints on toll-free helpline 1800-22-0110.
