Mumbai will get the delivery of its very own ship that can carry passengers on buses and cars across the harbour by January 28, a report states.

Popular in regions of Goa, and other coastal states, this RoRo (roll-on/roll-off) service will reportedly carry 200 cars at any given time, including up to 1,000 passengers during suitable weather conditions. During stormy weather, however, the RoRo will only be able to carry 500 passengers, it is said.

This service will reportedly take passengers to Alibaug, Mandwa, and other regions while cutting the time traveled by more than 2x. A typical journey to Alibaug which can take up to 3 hours depending on traffic will only take an hour when this service is operational in March.

One of the other positive impacts of a service like this is the massive reduction in pollution. When started, the service is expected to be popular among Mumbaikars who like to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city to neighboring hotspots.

Although the ship is expected to be delivered by the Greek Shipping Authority by the 28th of this month, weather delays could potentially delay its arrival in the city.
