Heavy vehicles have been banned in the cities of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai from midnight on Monday as the Ganesh Visarjan procession is likely to cause massive traffic jams in the city on Tuesday. Only essential service vehicles will be allowed to enter the city.
As Eid-e-Milad falls on Monday, processions take place at many places in the city on that day. Moreover, since Ganpati's immersion takes place on Anant Chaturdashi on Tuesday, immersion processions continue till Wednesday morning. The coming together of the two festivals is likely to lead to massive traffic jams in the cities of Thane and Navi Mumbai along with Mumbai. In this background, heavy vehicles are banned in the city every year. Accordingly, this year too, a notification has been released that heavy vehicles are completely banned from entering Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai from midnight on Monday to midnight on Thursday.

Accordingly, essential service vehicles have been excluded from the ban. All heavy vehicles coming from Pune to Mumbai will be stopped on both the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the old Mumbai Pune highway. Therefore, the Additional Director General of Police, (Traffic) Maharashtra State has appealed to motorists to avoid travelling on both these routes to avoid wasting their time and goods.
