Mumbai Metro Lines 7 (Red Line) and 2A (Yellow Line) will operate separately as the city’s metro network moves to its next stage. Line 7 Trains from Gundavli will now go north to Mira Road. Line 2A Trains starting from DN Nagar in Andheri West will end at Dahisar East. Dahisar East will serve as a common ticketed interchange for both lines.

The Red Line 7 depot will stay at Charkop. It currently houses 22 rakes. The depots for Lines 2A and 2B will move to Mandale, near Mankhurd. The Mandale depot will have space for 72 rakes. This split gives each corridor its own operational control and maintenance capacity.

Mumbai now has metro operations running at both ends of the city. The eastern side goes from Mankhurd to Chembur. The western side runs from Dahisar to Gundavli. Testing and approvals from the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) are ongoing. Both corridors are moving toward autonomous operations.

The Mandale depot is a modern, multi-story facility. It will handle all stabling and maintenance for the Yellow Line. It is designed to meet future growth needs. The smaller Charkop depot will continue supporting Red Line operations until more facilities are ready.

The change will improve east-west connectivity across Mumbai. Areas such as Chembur, Kurla, Bandra-Kurla Complex, the airport, and Kashimira will be connected by metro. This will create a nearly continuous link between the eastern and western suburbs.

At the western end, the Mira-Bhayandar expansion is under construction. It will connect Dahisar East to Mira Road and Kashimira. Line 7 will soon pass near the airport in the south. It will link with the tunnel network of Aqua Line 3 and serve domestic and international terminals.

The Yellow Line 2B eastern terminus, from Mandale to Diamond Garden in Chembur, is almost complete. Once operational, the metro network will then provide a continuous east-west connection from Mankhurd to Dahisar.
