It was announced by Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) that the first phase of Colaba-Bandra-Seepz i.e. Metro 3 route from Aarey to BKC will be tested (trial run) in the middle of February. However, this test is still on hold. The first phase of Metro 3 will be put into service as soon as the testing begins.

The 33.5 km Colaba-Bandra-Seepz metro line is being constructed by MMRC. By now, this route was expected to enter service. But due to many reasons, the work of this route has been delayed. Meanwhile, MMRCL has decided to put this route into service in two phases namely Aarey to BKC and BKC to Colaba and accordingly speed up the work. Earlier, MMRC had announced several dates for putting these two phases into traffic service. But the project could not be completed within that time frame. Now the date of April-May has been given for the first phase. Importantly, while giving this date, MMRC Managing Director Ashwini Bhide recently announced in a conference on infrastructure projects that Metro 2 will be put into service in three phases instead of two. Accordingly, these three stages will be Aarey to BKC, BKC to Worli and Worli to Colaba.

While announcing that the Metro 3 route will enter the traffic service in three phases, Bhide also announced that the first phase test will begin in the next fifteen days, i.e. in the second-third week of February. There was talk that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would flag off the Aarey to BKC trial at the inauguration of the first phase of the Mumbai Coastal Road on February 19. However, the inauguration of the first phase of the Seashore project has been postponed. On the other hand, the trial of Metro 3 has also been stopped. If the first phase is to be put into service in April-May, it is necessary to start the process of getting the safety certificate through testing as soon as possible. When senior MMRC officials were asked about this, they did not give any response.
