People in Mumbai have been fond of travelling and commuting through the city’s first metro from Versova to Ghatkopar as this medium is comfortable for the commuters. The number of people commuting in the metro is increasing day by day – 40 crore people have travelled via the metro in 1423 days.

With so much crowd travelling in local trains, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) initiated two projects to ease the pain of Mumbaikars: Monorail and Mumbai Metro. However, the Monorail project has proved to be a failure as it couldn’t lure the passengers. The Monorail has been closed for over six months.

The Versova-Ghatkopar line of the Mumbai’s metro service crossed the 10 crore marks in just 398 days of its commencement. The Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) has expressed satisfaction over the number of people using the metro.

Recently, there has been a notable increase in the number of passengers commuting from Western Expressway by 48 per cent and 45 per cent increase has been noted from the Azad Nagar metro station.
