Mumbai’s newly opened Metro corridors have received contrasting responses from commuters, with Metro Line 9 (Dahisar East–Kashigaon) witnessing heavy ridership, while Metro Line 2B (Diamond Garden–Mandale) has recorded a relatively slow start.
According to reports, Metro Line 9 attracted a large number of passengers from its very first day of operations. The corridor has proved beneficial for residents of the Mira-Bhayander and surrounding regions, offering improved connectivity to the western suburbs through interchange with Metro Line 7. Commuters have reported significant time savings and relief from congested road travel.
In contrast, Metro Line 2B has seen limited footfall in its initial days. The lower ridership is attributed to restricted connectivity, as the corridor currently does not link major commercial hubs or key interchange stations. Transport experts suggest that passenger numbers are likely to rise once the line is extended and integrated with other parts of the metro network.
The differing responses underline the importance of network connectivity in determining the success of urban transit systems. While Line 9 has emerged as an immediate success, Line 2B is expected to gain momentum in the future as the network expands.
