Mumbai-Nagpur super expressway will now be named after Shiv Sena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray. The much talked about Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi expressway was started by the previous BJP-led government and was named after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Even during that time Shiv Sena had put forward the proposal to name it after Balasaheb Thackeray but the then Devendra Fadnavis government paid no heed to this demand.

The announcement for renaming this Mumbai-Nagpur super expressway after late Balasaheb Thackeray was done by Eknath Shinde said on Wednesday.

This project was one of the pet projects of Devendra Fadnavis . It is expected that the super expressway will require Rs 30,000 crore to be made. This project has been surrounded by controversies ever since it started. The first of it was the objection from farmers, who didn't want to give up their lands.
