The expansion of platform no. 10 to 14 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) on Central Railway is underway. At present, 12 to 18 coaches express can stand on these platforms. However, after increasing the length of the platforms, the 24-coach express will be able to halt. 45 percent of the first phase of embankment expansion has been completed.

Every day, 90 long distance trains depart from CSMT. But since the length of platform number 10 to 14 is short, a train of 24 coaches cannot stand here. Therefore, the number of express coaches running between Mumbai - Pune could not be increased. Expansion of platforms is very necessary to increase the number of coaches. The total cost of this project is expected to be INR 62.12 crore and after the completion of expansion work of all five platforms, the speed of trains in CSMT-Dadar section will be further improved, Central Railway officials expressed their belief.
