As the Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge in Andheri shuts for vehicular and pedestrian movement from today, November 7, for nearly two years, the Mumbai Traffic Police have advised alternative routes the commuters. This order will be valid from 07/11/2022 (00.01 hrs) till further order.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had requested to close existing Gokhale bridge with immediate effect as the said bridge is found unsafe for vehicular traffic.
Accordingly, the Dy. Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Western Suburban, Mumbai Nitin Pawar issued an official statement and noted: “In exercise of the powers conferred on me under section 115 of Motor Vehicles Act-1988 (Act No. 59 of 1988) read with Government Notification No. MVA0589/CR-1061/TRA-2 dated 19/05/1990 do hereby, in view of the safety of the people, order as under.
Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge, Andheri has been declared unsafe for public use by @mybmc.

Hence, in view of public safety, it will be closed for vehicular & pedestrian traffic from 7th Nov, 2022 till further notice.

In view above mentioned prohibitory order, people can use the following alternative routes.
1. Khar Subway, Khar
2. Milan Subway flyover Bridge, Santacruz, Mumbai
3. Captain Gore flyover Bridge (Parle Bridge), Vile Parle, Mumbai.
4. Andheri Subway, Andheri, Mumbai
5. Balasaheb Thackrey flyover Bridge, Jogeshwari, Mumbai.
6. Mrunaltai Gore flyover Bridge, Goregaon, Mumbai.
For those unversed, in July 2018, a portion of the Gokhale Road bridge collapsed owing to which, two people died in this accident. After this incident, the civic body conducted an audit for the safety of bridges in the city. The Gokhale Road bridge was partially open for traffic even after a portion of the bridge collapsed.
