By December, travel by Metro, BEST buses with a single-ticket system

Soon, Mumbaikars will be able to travel by modes of transport with just a single ticket. Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to bring in an integrated ticketing system (ITS) which will connect all modes of public transport.

MMRDA officials will ready the Mumbai-specific scheme by December after which the planning authority will invite bids for implementation.

As per the report published in Hindustan Times, MMRDA has appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as consultants who will design the scheme for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

The single-ticket system will integrate all existing and proposed transportation corridors of MMR – railways, BEST buses and Monorail.

If things fall into place, this will be one of its kind project in the country where Mumbaikars will be able to use a smart-card for multimodal corridors. This project will be implemented in phases where officials will connect Metro first, then BEST buses and in the last railways will be integrated.

MMRDA will connect Metro and BEST buses first as both have a system of automatic doors for entry and exit.
