Mumbai’s rail connectivity with Bengaluru has expanded with the introduction of a second direct train service between the two cities after nearly three decades. The new bi-weekly express train connecting Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Mumbai and SMVT Bengaluru was recently flagged off by the Railway Ministry.
For years, the Udyan Express remained the only direct rail link between Mumbai and Bengaluru, one of the country’s busiest intercity travel routes. Railway officials say the additional service is expected to reduce pressure on existing trains and provide more travel options for passengers commuting for business, education, and tourism.
The train will operate twice a week and travel through major stations including Pune, Lonavala, Hubballi, Belagavi, and Davanagere before reaching Bengaluru. The journey is expected to take around 24 hours.
Officials have also indicated that a Bengaluru–Mumbai Vande Bharat Sleeper service may be introduced in the future, which could significantly reduce travel time between the two metro cities.
