According to the latest reports, locals from Mumbai could soon make use of app-based luxury buses to reach their offices. On Tuesday, May 3, the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) reportedly declared that it would soon issue tenders to attain on wet-lease 200 premium luxury buses that include the likes of Mercedes or Volva, for office travellers.
Based on accounts, these buses will ply during peak hours on office commuting routes that can be tracked via an app. Similar to other cab aggregator apps in the market, travellers can book their seats through the mobile app. Moreover, no standees will be permitted.
It has been reported that the interiors of these buses will be on lines of the outstation buses that entail pushback seats, leg space, and curtains, amongst others. Lokesh Chandra, BEST General Manager was quoted in a narrative by the Times of India elaborating on how the bus's exterior will be painted with the BEST logo.
Chandra added that while the fares for these buses are yet to be finalised, they will be lesser than that of cab aggregators. An official added that commuters can board the bus, and tap on the mobile machine near the door while alighting at the stop. Therefore, the fare will be automatically deducted, but commuters will be given a fare estimate prior to the journey.
Later, in the afternoon, these buses will transform themselves into point to point buses and in the evening return to office routes, cited reports.
It is anticipated that these buses will cater to offices in Colaba, Cuffe Parade, Nariman Point, Lower Parel, Malad, and Bandra Kurla Complex, amongst others. The BEST is expected to attain 200 such app-based buses this year.
