The construction of the 'Dahisar-Mira-Bhayander Metro 9' and 'Andheri East-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport Metro 7A' lines by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is ongoing, with both projects experiencing delays and extended deadlines.

Contractors for these routes have received rate hikes, pushing the Metro 9 completion to June 2025 and Metro 7A to July 2026. Consequently, Mumbaikars will have to wait longer to access these transit services.

The Metro 9 route from Dahisar to Mira-Bhayander, which will eventually extend to Uttan, is 92% complete. Meanwhile, the Metro 7A line, extending the Dahisar to Gundavali Metro 7 line from Andheri East to the International Airport, has completed 46% of its construction over a 3.442 km stretch.

Initial deadlines for these projects were September 2022 and March 2023, respectively. However, delays have led to revised timelines, with Metro 9 now targeted for phased rollout, potentially beginning late this year or early 2026.

While significant progress has been made on Metro 9, challenges remain, including the delayed construction of its car shed. To expedite partial service, MMRDA may use Metro 7's car shed. However, full operations on both routes will take more time, extending the wait for commuters.
