The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has decided to provide free travel to senior citizens in Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT) buses. After administrative approval, the announcement is expected to coincide with the Diwali festivity, which will be celebrated in the coming week.

According to Hindustan Times reports, NMMT currently offers 50% fare concession to senior citizens above 65 years of age and students. Free travel is given to elected representatives, freedom fighters, journalists, civil servants, disabled persons and HIV+ persons. NMMT operates a total of 567 buses on 74 routes carrying approximately 1.80 lakh passengers every day. NMMT operates under NMMC jurisdiction and also serves Mumbai, Borivali, Bandra, Mantralaya, World Trade Centre, Andheri, Mulund, Thane, Dombivali, Kalyan, Badlapur, Khargar Kalamboli, Panvel, Ulwe Node, Karanjade, Koproli and Uran.
