There is some good news for Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) passengers. The bus corporation is planning to add 1,500 new buses to its existing flock. This includes 1,000 AC Mini buses and 500 AC Midi buses running on CNG. All these busses will be added by 2020. Alongside, the bus corporation has also issued tenders for 590 AC Electric buses and 1,000 air-conditioned double-decker buses.
Currently, BEST has six Mini buses and electric buses. The recently introduced Midi and Mini buses have been running smoothly on Mumbai roads and the transport program has received a tremendous response.
Previously, the bus corporation had decided to reduce its fare prices to a minimum of ₹5 for non-AC buses and ₹6 for AC buses. After which, the service began regaining passengers who preferred public transport instead of other means of transportation.
